5 Ways to boost your immune system

My fascination with “boosting the immune system” came years ago when I was a child. My mom was sick in bed so I decided to act as a doctor and create a medication for her. I went into the kitchen and put some form of drink together. Bless my mom for trusting me because she actually drank it! The next day she was back to normal as if nothing happened. I don’t know if it was chance or something I did, but it showed me how important nutrition was! Before we dive deep into 5 different ways of boosting your immune system, I want to go over some terms and some FAQs first.

What does it mean to have a weak immune system? It means you’re immunocompromised. It’s the decrease or lack of ability to fight infections and diseases. This can be caused by your lifestyle, namely: poor diet, genetic disorders, environment, and some forms of medicine (for example radiation therapy).

How do you strengthen your immune system? As simple as improving your diet, exercising regularly, and getting sleep. By doing this, your body is in a healthier and stronger position for fighting off infections or simple colds. Changing your daily lifestyle can make the biggest difference! Eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables can give you natural antioxidants, but we can definitely use a boost!

What are antioxidants? We hear this word a lot when it comes to helping the immune system. Basically, it helps protect the body from oxidation.

What’s oxidation? It’s when there is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants. Medical News Today explains it as “Oxidation is the loss of electrons during a reaction by a molecule, atom or ion.” In other words, there is an imbalance in your system! Free radicals are unstable atoms that can damage cells, causing illness, and aging.

What causes this imbalance in the first place? Like we mentioned above, it can be caused by your lifestyle such as: poor diet, genetics, environment, and some forms of medicine.

What do antioxidants do exactly? Scientifically, they neutralize and remove free radicals by donating an electron. To put simply, antioxidants help protect the body by removing unstable cells and making more healthy cells.

1. ELDERBERRY EXTRACT (SAMBUCUS BLACK)

Also known as the “Father of Medicine,” the world’s most healing plant! If you want something to ease your cold and flu symptoms, Elderberry Extract is it!

High in vitamin C and dietary fiber, studies have also shown it helps with inflammation, lessen stress, and help protect your heart.

  1. 4 oz water
  2. A dash of cayenne pepper
  3. 1 minced garlic
  4. Minced ginger
  5. Honey
  6. Lemon

*Substitutions: Onions for garlic. Boil ginger and use that water for the shot.
